DIY Pinwheel Birthday Banner

First, can I say to all my awesome readers, WOW have I missed y’all!!  Moving from state to state isn’t as easy as I thought it would be.  I’ve been so overwhelmed I haven’t had time to blog.  I haven’t had time to craft, paint, make jewelry.  In fact I haven’t even unpacked my “crafties” box!! 🙁  Then today I thought “OH YEA!! I never did the DIY birthday banner post!” This is the birthday banner I made for Alice Marie’s 3rd birthday party! SO here ya go!  The DIY Birthday Banner Post! 🙂

For anyone following me you know that I am IN LOVE with the Spring Banner Myra with My Blessed Life made.  I’ve used her tutorial a few times already to make my own banners.

Since I made much of the party decorations for Alice’s 3rd birthday party from a pastel color pack of tissue paper.  I decided to MAKE the paper for this banner. I made the party garland

While I’m showing off…did ya see the cake!??  It ALSO matched the decorations!!!

Alie’s Birthday Cake

SO cute right?  I’m totally proud! 🙂  It’s not as cute as my Alie Marie, though!!
OK! Now to the tutorial!!

To make the paper I just glued pieces of printer paper onto sheets of tissue paper and let them dry over night.

Once the pieces were dry I measured and cut them.  For this banner the squares were all 5″ x 5″.  I saved the left over paper too, so don’t throw it away.

Seeing all the squares stacked like this reminded me of bar napkins.  Now, I was a waitress longer than I care to admit, BUT I do have a cool trick I can teach y’all real quick that I learned in my serving days!
Take a small glass and place it on to of the stack of napkins.

Hold a few of the bottom napkins and press the glass down firmly and start to twist.

After a few twists you have a fancy-shamcy display of beverage napkins!!

OK back to the tutorial!
Take your squares and begin to fold them accordion style.

I lost the pictures of how to turn this into a pinwheel.  BUT, Myra with My Blessed Life, has a GREAT tutorial on how to do these you can see HERE!
Once my pinwheels were made I traced (with a cup) and cut out circles from the remaining paper.

Then I traced and cut letters out from a piece of scrapbook paper and glued them onto the circles.

Then I glued the letter circles on to the pinwheels.

I strung the wheels on twine according to Myra’s directions.  This is what the banners looked like at her party.

So what do you think?  I LOVE it!  It’s really easy to make, inexpensive and will ALWAYS match your decor!!!
Thanks for stopping by!
