Hot Dogs and summer go together like chocolate and peanut butter, right? With Memorial Day closing in I thought it would be nice to share a bunch of hot dog recipes with y’all.
First up….
I made this DELICIOUSNESS for my family and they were super SUPER grateful. I do have to give credit to my wonderful hubby for first introducing us to the Sonoran Hot Dog back last summer. How we managed to live just 2 hours from the birth place of this amazing hot dog and not actually have one until we moved back to Texas is beyond me. If you’ve never had a Sonoran Hot Dog you MUST try one. They are SO DELICIOUS! Here is a little fun history write up on them. I love the writer calls them “like a chili dog on steroids! The write up is also about El Guero Canelo restaurant in Tucson made famous when Adam Richman with The Travel Channel’s Man vs. Food took a visit, for what???? A SONORAN HOT DOG! Click here to see that video Man vs. Food- Sonoran Hot Dog
It’s really not hard to make at all.
What you will need:
bacon (preferably mesquite or hickory smoked)
hot dogs
bolillo buns or regular hot dog buns ( I actually prefer regular buns)
tomatoes
onions
crumbly Mexican cheese
jalpapeno salsa
mayo
lemon
mustard
ketchup
pinto beans
Grill the bacon wrapped dogs in a skillet or on a grill if you like. Heat up the pinto beans in a sauce pan, stir occasionally. Chop your onions and tomatoes and put them aside. Crumble up your cheese. Squeeze one lemon into a 1/4th cup of mayo and stir. Warm buns in an oven or over a grill, or even on the bacon covered skillet.
Once the dogs are ready place them on a paper towel to absorb some of that excess grease. While that happens get your buns ready. I like to put the mayo, mustard and ketchup on the bottom. Then I put my bacon wrapped dog in the bun, cover it with pinto beans, chopped tomatoes and onions, however much you prefer of the jalapeno salsa and then top it all with a handful of delicious crumbly white Mexican cheese. Then ENJOY!
I severed ours with some delicious tortilla chips. Now, I don’t like the bolillo bread so I actually use regular hot dogs buns. This is my Sonoran hot dog with a regular hot dog buns.
I also found these great hot dog recipes to try.

Yummy!! I am so trying the Devilish Chili-Cheese Dogs
They look amazing don’t they!
What a fun post! I personally always love a good chili dog with lots of cheese! =)
Hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend!
Me too!! But you have to try a Sonoran Dog. I’m a wimp when it comes to spicy (the half paki side of me just cringed) so I don’t do the Jalapeno salsa. I have added just some good mild salsa and it’s great. But seriously, the Sonoran hot dogs are SO GOOD!!
Thank you so much for this post. I am having a hot dog bar at my son’s birthday party and wanted to post recipes for different hot dogs people can make. I am pinning this. I would love if you would share this and any other posts at Showcase Your Talent Thursday http://whatscookinglove.blogspot.com/2012/05/showcase-your-talent-thursday-8.html. I hope to see you there!

I know, right? You only need one. SO you end up with half the hot dog pack for next time! They are super delicious.
Some of these are lip-smackingly yummy looking. Will try soon! We have what’s called a Carolina style hot dog which is onion, chili, mustard, and cole slaw. Really yummy to me, but I’m going to have to try something new now looking at this list.
OH! The Carolina hot dog sounds great! I’m going to have to try that one.
I don’t think that I could possibly make my way through even a few of these recipes, but what a great roundup!!! I can’t wait to try a couple.
Thanks so much for sharing at Show and Tell Wednesday!
xoxo, Tauni
