I wanted to write up a “how to” post for the Rapunzel Birthday Wreath I made for Alice’s Rapunzel Party. It was NOT an easy task!!
If first came across the idea here from the Corner House. I loved it and knew I had to make one for Alie. If you click over to see how she put hers together you’ll see she tied hers to the banister upstairs and braided it that way. I tried multiple ways, most of which were a bust! I finally came up with tying it to a step ladder and draping the sections over the furniture in the living room.
I unraveled the yarn and tied it together around the handle of the step ladder. Carefully stretched the yarn out keeping it as straight as possible. Then I sectioned off the 3 strands, again carefully. I say carefully because this is what happened when I tried to rush thru the process.
I had several “tangled” pieces like this. TANGLED, get it!
This is what my living room looked like while I braided.
This wasn’t the easiest method but it worked. If you have an upstairs banister to hang it from I would recommend doing that. If you read Laura’s post she had a much easier time making the braid. She even had fun doing it!!
After I had the braid done I went to work on the sign. The sign is a wood plaque from Michael’s that I paid 99 cents for. I painted the sign purple. Created a stencil using my Silhouette SD and cut it onto vinyl.
I carefully placed the vinyl onto the plaque using tweezers to get it just where I wanted it placed.
Then I painted.

I let the first coat dry and then added another. I did this again, adding 3 coats.
I LOVE how it came out! Super cute, right?
I added the sign by hot gluing strands of yarn to the back side of the sign and tying it onto the wreath. This way I could play around with placement a bit until I had it just where I wanted it.
Next I wrapped the braid around the sign and played around with placement again until I liked where it was. Then I tacked it up and strung up the braid here and there. I used yellow tacks to tack it up and carefully hid then by placing the tacks under some of the braid.
Then I took silk flowers and hot glued them here and there through out the braid.
I also added some greenery from the silk flowers to the bare spots of the wreath (hubby’s idea).
So there you have it, my Rapunzel Birthday Wreath how to!
What do y’all think? Have you made any fun birthday wreaths? I would love for you to share them with me.
