My guest today is the AMAZINGLY talented Kim with Today’s Creative Blog!!

Christmas in July Guest To Sew With Love

Today our guest is the beautiful Lelanie of To Sew With Love!Hi, lovelies. We are thrilled to be guest posting for Ami today. I am Lelanie of To Sew With Love, a blog where I share the same passion for sewing, giveaways and handmade with my sister-bff, Laarnie. We are geographically separated (I am based in Spain while my sister is in Japan) but our blog brings us even closer!
Today, we will share with you one of the first projects we shared via our sewing blog. This is simple felt stocking project where your kids can help and participate. What’s great about this project is you can choose to sew it by hand, by machine or make it a no-sew project by using glue!

Your kids can pick the colors and the design for their stockings.

My daughter helped in cutting the felt while my little boy handed to me each piece her sister has finished cutting so I can sew it on the felt stocking.

We weren’t able to take step-by-step photos as my photographer (my daighter) was so busy chatting with me and her brother. ^^)

They loved their stockings!

I think, the main reason why they loved it (aside from the fact that the stockings turned out cute) is because they helped in making it. ^^) It’s always great to take all the chance you get to create something “cute as a button” with your kids.

Christmas in July Guest Wildflowers and Whimsy

Our guest today for the Christmas in July series is the lovely April with Wildflowers & Whimsy!!

Hi there AliLily readers! I’m April, and I blog over at Wildflowers & Whimsy. I am super excited to be here today to share with you a cute Ruffle Ric Rac Headband tutorial! I think this sweet little accessory would be the perfect match for your little princess’ Christmas outfit or make a great stocking stuffer!

All you need is a headband, a 5/8″ wide strip of fabric approximately 2x the length of the the headband, a 3″ wide bias strip approximately 2x the length of the the headband , a glue glue gun, and a sewing machine or needle and thread. (you can check out this post if you need more info on how to make bias strips. Also, you can use ribbon instead of fabric if your like.)

Please excuse the change of fabric, but it is easier to see in these pictures. Use a disappearing fabric marker to make marks every 2″ along one of the long sides of the bias strip. On the opposite long side, make marks centered between the marks at the top of the ribbon/bias strip. (i.e. I started marking at the very beginning at the top, and at the bottom, I started marking at the 1″ mark) Be sure to make your marks on the RIGHT side of the fabric and run your gathering stitch with the RIGHT side up because whatever side the bobbin thread is on, is the side the fabric will curve too.

Starting at one end connect the points from opposite sides with a gathering stitch, to form a zigzag as pictured above.

Now pull the bobbin thread to gather the bias strip down to the same length as the headband. Wrap the headband with the 5/8″ strip, and you are ready to apply the ruffled ric rac to the headband.

Find the center of the ruffled ric rac, apply a small amount of hot glue to the top center of the headband, and then, press the ruffle ric rac in place.

Continue attaching the ruffle ric rac to the headband down one side, then the other.

And DONE! Isn’t she sassy?!? lol

And the fun doesn’t stop at headbands! Ruffled ric rac would be a cute addition to stockings, ornaments, or any other project you can come up with! Hope you enjoy! And I would love for you to stop by my blog and say hi!

Christmas In July Guest Tammy with Not Just Paper and Glue

Today we have my sweet friend Tammy here to share a great tutorial for our Christmas in July series.

I started off the month with this Countdown to Christmas project.

I have to admit, just doing a Google search to find the number of days until Christmas was sort of exciting to me. I know, sounds crazy doesn’t it? Especially for anyone who knows me! You see, I am not a “cold weather” person and my idea of an ideal Christmas would be heading to the beach, sticking a small Christmas tree in the sand that is covered in pink and green, and enjoying the day in the sun. Maybe that is why I really had fun with this project I am going to show you today – it’s July and the weather is warm – perfect for Christmas.

Instructions:

I have had this acrylic scallop circle in my stash for some time now. I had many different plans for it, but when I discovered “Chalkboard Vinyl” at my local scrapbook store, I knew exactly what I was going to use it on!

To start the project I used my Silhouette to cut the bracket shape from the vinyl and adhered it to the center of the acrylic circle.

Again, using my Silhouette, I cut several different sizes of a Poinsettia, 3 leaf branches, title, and ribbon banner hanger from Sticky Paper. I also cut the scallop banners from two different colors of patterned paper.

I colored the title and ribbon banner hanger with Silver glitter and used Spring Green, Sea Mist, and Clover glitters on the leaf branches. Make sure to use your Anti Static brush to remove any excess glitter from your pieces.

Decide how many layers you want for each Poinsettia flower and then color each layer using Crimson, China Red, or Sunset glitters. By using a different color on the layers you can create depth along with highlights and shadows giving your flower a more realistic look.

Glittered Title on Days to Christmas Chalkboard from P K Glitz Using the embossing technique from Brads 3 Ways I colored my brads with Sunshine E P Max.

Once the brads were cooled, I stacked my Poinsettias and poked a hole through the center of the layers. I used my colored brad to hold the layers together and provide the center for my Poinsettia.

I used the technique from the Dimensional Flowers class to add some additional leaves for my flowers. I colored the leaves with Spring Green, Sea Mist, and Clover glitters.

To give the scallop banner pieces some shine, I covered them with embossing ink and embossed with Crystal E P Lite. This allowed the pattern to still show while adding a bit of sparkle to the banner.

Assembling:

I used Sticky Tape to adhere the leaf branches to the chalkboard vinyl and scrap pieces of WonderFilm for the Poinsettia flowers and Dimensional leaves. Crystal Lacquer was used on any item that was too tiny or detailed for the dry adhesives.
