Easy Christmas Art with the Dremel Micro

I am just in love with the Easy Personalized Kid Decorated Christmas Art we made with our new Dremel Micro 8050!

Easy Personalized Kid Decorated Wooden Christmas Art

Being that this was my first time using the Dremel I was pretty nervous.  Luckily there are plenty of “How To” videos on the Dremel website.

It took just a bit of trial and error to figure out engraving. The slower the speed of the Dremel the easier it is to control your lines.

I played with the different Dremel tool attachments, discovering what each one did. Have to admit that was fun!

My husband created this Christmas tree cut out from a cookie cutter.

Easy Christmas Art with Dremel

We decided to make an ornament that our daughter Alice could decorate herself.  We thought to add it to a plaque creating a keepsake decoration for Christmas that we could display year after year.

We let Alice paint the wooden Christmas tree ornament with pretty green glitter paint.

Kid Decorated Wooden Christmas Art

Once it was dry, I applied the hot glue and she carefully added the beads for ornaments.

Now to the wooden plaque. After tracing the letters with a pencil, I used a Dremel high speed cutter to engrave Alice’s name and the year into the wood plaque. The new LED light feature is great!

Then I painted the plaque. I discovered after I painted that I needed to sand the letters down. I carefully sanded the letters down with a Dremel sanding wheel. Then I added another coat of white.

I let Alice trace her name and the year with sparkly paint of her choice. I tried to convince her to use red but purple won. I mean, it is being decorated by her right?!

I just love how it came out! Wouldn’t it just make a wonderful present for a loved one! Perfect for Grandparents or Aunts and Uncles!

This one is MINE, though. I love it and it’s going up on my wall every year for Christmas.

The Pom Tree kits are easy to use, colorful and fun. Kids can just have fun with them exploring and building their own imagination. Interlocking foam pieces are much like a puzzle which exercises their problem solving skills.  The kits are made up of interlocking foam pieces, colorfully displayed cardboard, felt and foam stickers. All the kits coordinate with other kits and are interchangeable. Alice plays with her kits for hours creating and recreating all kinds of fun scenes and works of art.

Alice decided to open the Feathered Friends Post Office 3D kit right away. We got everything out, had snacks and water on hand and we were ready to play!

The pieces interlock and are easy to put together.

Pom Tree Kids Putting It Together

Alice LOVED putting the kit together and was able to do it almost all by herself.

Since then we have created many fun projects using the kits from Pom Tree.

Alice and I made a foam stick scarecrow.

We used the foam sticks, felt flower stickers and chenille stems from the Pom Tree Mega Kit. We also used some felt, glitter Mod Podge and googly eyes.

First we glued the sticks together. Alice brushed the glitter Mod Podge over the sticks. I cut a hat and nose from felt. Then Alice glued on the eyes, nose, hat, chenille stems for hair and drew on a proper scarecrow smile.  Alice added a felt ribbon and felt flower on the hat.

Isn’t it super cute!!?

We also followed the directions inside the Pom Tree Mega Kit and created a Foam Craft Stick Flower.  Actually, Alice made the Flower all by herself! It’s wonderful that these kits are kid friendly and easy to use. It gives them such a sense of pride and accomplishment to create by themselves.

Kids Summer Crafting- Glow In The Dark Inspirational Subway Art

Summer is a wonderful time to craft with your kids.  It’s great for “boredom”, boosts their brains with creativity and then it’s just plain fun, right?! Plaid Crafts has many wonderful products that are PERFECT for s kids summer crafting project.

Plaid Crafts sent me these awesome supplies to craft with.

Our local Christian radio station is hosting an event this summer called the Make 1 Take 1 event. You make a craft and take it to the station and they in return are taking the crafts to local Ronald McDonald houses to bless the children there. With that in mind Alice and I decided to make some inspiration subway art. I have many pieces of inspirational subway art around our house, so she is very accustomed to the idea.

Now remember, some of the great paint they sent me is glow in the dark, and they sent me the GloAway Gel, too!  So, our inspirational subway art will ALSO GLOW IN THE DARK. I imagined a sweet little girl who maybe needed some words of encouragement. Then I imagined if she was up at night, maybe couldn’t sleep and she would see those words glowing and hopefully that would bring her comfort.

I used a piece of cardboard that came in this frame. I painted it with the Neon Yellow paint.  I then cut and taped together the stencils to create the words.

I used the glow in the dark paint for some of the words.  IMAG7318b

Then I let Alice get to painting.

The paint bled thru just a little bit here and there. It was easy to clean off right away with a dry paint brush.

IMAG7332 IMAG7333a

In between stencils I had her pick colors and set up the paint tray.  I used a few stencils I already add and a couple stamps as well.

After it all dried over night I touched up here and there. I added an extra coat of the glow in the dark paint to make sure the words would glow nicely.

Once our piece was dry, we added a layer of the FABULOUS Mod Podge Extreme Glitter! Seriously, this stuff is awesome!!

You can see just how much glitter it leaves behind in the bottom left corner! IMAG7420b Now, this being a work of art by Alice, I had to have her sign it! She used a metallic paint pen and also drew one of her famous hearts next to the word hope.

And here is our finished Glow In The Dark Inspirational Subway Art!

What do y’all think? Didn’t Alice do GREAT!?!

I set up my small mantel in what I thought a sweet little girl might set up so that y’all and Alice could see what it would look like in action!

DIY Kids Craft Inspirational Subway Art

I tried and tried and tried again to get an image of the piece glowing in the dark. I am SO SAD that I can’t show y’all! It’s awesome. The words believe, hope, faith and God all glow in the dark and you can clearly see them glowing for quite some time. I hope whomever receives this piece will be blessed by it, especially at night.

I want to thank Blueprint Social and Plaid Crafts for giving us the opportunity to create something wonderful and have a lot of fun this summer!!
