Bright Colorful Whimsical Christmas Mantel and Argyle Wreath

I made this bright, colorful, whimsical Christmas mantel and argyle wreath last year. I was so busy with my new job as an early childhood teacher that I never got around to writing up a post about it. It was such a colorful fun mantel I just had to share it with y’all this year!

Bright Colorful Whimsical Christmas Mantel Collage It really was so much fun to create.  First I painted my wood fence board .

Remember this Fall Mantel?

Well, I painted over the board for my Christmas mantel.  Bright Colorful Whimsical Christmas Mantel

Then I added some glittery ornaments I found at Walmart, a small felt bunting banner, yarn wrapped pom pom Christmas trees, a yarn wrapped argyle Christmas wreath, yarn garland, glittery snowflakes, Christmas tree candles, a wire wrapped Christmas tree and a Santa and Alice picture.

The yarn wrapped pom pom Christmas trees were easy to make and SO CUTE!

The yarn and felt argyle Christmas wreath is my favorite! I love the bright fun colors.

I loved the traditionally colored Argyle Christmas wreath I made the year before and thought to make a bright fun colorful one in non-traditional Christmas colors.

I made felt diamonds, wrapped over in turquoise yarn then added felt rosettes in coordinating colors and a few ice crystallized red berries.

Isn’t it so much fun? Do you decorate in traditional Christmas colors or do you like to venture outta the box and go for something a little different?

The year before I went with a very traditional Christmas mantel.

I love it, I do, but the next year I thought to go with some whimsical bright fun colors and my family and my baby girl loved it!

I would love to know what you think! Traditional or non traditional Christmas decor and colors?

Back To School Pencil Wreath Tutorial

This cute Back to School Pencil Wreath can be used for a Back to School Party or a Back to School Photo Backdrop. It was really easy to make and I’m going to show you how!

Back To School Pencil Wreath Tutorial

Here is what I used.

pencil wreath supplies

LOTS of pencils, 2 pieces of cardboard, hot glue, white, yellow and black paint.

First, I cut out a large circle from one piece of my cardboard.  BTW, I cut out my cardboard using a bowl at a stencil. I then started to place the pencils.

Its a tricky thing placing the pencils! I wanted to glue them right away and then would noticed that either they were even or I just didn’t like it.

DIY Pencil Wreath Ideas

Then this would happen. It happened quite a few times!! :/

So, eventually when I was happy with the design I actually marked each pencil so that I could put them all back on with the hot glue in the same design that I had finally decided on.

Now, I put TONS of hot glue over the pencils to glue on the top piece of cardboard.

Once the glue had dried I painted the top circle cardboard cut out. I FORGOT to take pictures of that!!! I painted the circle black, used the yellow to paint a faux ruler on the edge and used white for the letters. If you by flat or matte paint the white on black looks just like chalk. Only one layer needed!

That cute little apple my hubby made. He cut it out of card stock because I “it just needs something more”! HAHA! But seriously, that little apple was the icing!

SO cute right!?? You could make this as a gift too! Just had the teachers name, maybe something like Ms. Janet is an A+ Teacher!!

I used this wreath for a photo backdrop.

Back to School Photo Backdrop Tutorial

You can read about how I created that backdrop in my Back To School Photo or Party Backdrop Tutorial post!

BTW I have a post of 101 FREE Back To School printables. The cute signs and banners you see above can be found in this post.

Have you made a pencil wreath before? Or have you ever thrown a Back To School party or had a Back To School or First Day of School photo shoot?? I would love to hear about it.

Thanks for stopping by!

Gorgeous DIY Home Decor with the David Tutera Casual Elegance Collection

A couple weeks ago I received this amazing package full of GORGEOUS crafting supplies from the David Tutera Casual Elegance collection.  Wow, y’all….WOW! First let me show you what I made!  The collection was created for weddings, but as I’m going to show you, there is SO MUCH MORE you can create with this gorgeous collection!! I decided to decorate a very drab surface in my living room.

I’ll show y’all what I used and how I used them in just a sec, but first, let me show y’all the AWESOME GORGEOUSNESS they sent me to work with.

WOW right??!!

This wreath I made is one of my favorites!

These are the items from the David Tutera Casual Elegance collection that I used to create the wreath.

I used the burlap ribbon and wrapped it around the a straw wreath form I had.

IMAG7669

Then I wrapped the lace around.  While I was wrapping the lace, I thought about making a rosette from it and realized I didn’t need too! The collection comes with so much and it’s so easy to decorate with. David Tutera did all the work for us!

IMAG7671

After I added those gorgeous burlap rosettes I added a few of these precious burlap flowers too.

IMAG7674

After hot gluing the ribbon in place and gluing the flowers into place, here is what it looks like!!

Gorgeous right!?  And all I had to do was use a few products from the collection.

Now, lets talk about these beauties!!  These were two of the jars provided. I’ll have to post a tutorial on how I colored them later.

I used the lace, burlap ribbon, hemp cord, lace, a few pearls I had and some electric tea lights.  I made a lace rosette from the lace.

It really is easy!! Step one, twist the lace, then put a dab of hot glue at the top and pinch the end closed. Then begin to roll a little, place a dab of hot glue and roll the wound lace around again. I place a dab of glue on each side as I go. I have found that this method keeps the rosette from unwinding later. So, roll a little then glue on the opposite side of and keep doing this on every other side until your done with your strip of lace.

For the other two jars I wrapped the burlap ribbon around the smaller jar and tied some lace around it. The larger jar I wrapped a piece of pink cloth I had and wrapped the other burlap ribbon around it and added a few of the burlap flowers. Very very easy and they look so gorgeous!

For this vase I used the bouquet wrap from the David Tutera Casual Elegance Collection.

IMAG8000

I added just a tiny dab of hot glue in the corners on the back to hold it in place. That way when I wanted to use the bouquet wrap for something else or use the red vase as is I could easily remove the wrap without damaging the wrap or the vase.

All the gorgeous pieces were so easy to put together. I have so much left over I can’t wait to create more. This collection is so great! You have so much to work with and it’s so easy to use.

Isn’t it all just GORGEOUS!?! I just love it!

Here is what it looks like at night with the lighted birdhouse and the lighted colored mason jars.

I love it!! Everything looks so gorgeous in the evening.
